Ruminations on a Pacific Atoll

Islands are very special places. The further away they are from the beaten track, the more remarkable and inspiring they seem to be.

Last year, I undertook a 3-week consultancy with UNICEF in the Republic of Kiribati in the South Pacific. I found a remarkably spiritual people with a strong sense of community, pride and old-fashioned values, facing similar issues to those faced by the Global North. Their thought-provoking solutions to some of these problems, and their steadfastness and refusal to give in to greed, fear and hatred in the face of adversity led me to write this article.
